It might look funny seeing a baby with Olympic weights, but did you know that youth resistance training is a powerhouse for physical and mental health benefits and performance.

Starting age is dependant on maturity, both physical and mental, as the challenge of weightlifting can be difficult to understand and complete when kids are below 10. Kids and teens, especially from ages 11 to 22, can see positive changes in body composition, performance, and confidence from weightlifting.

No need to worry about stunted growth either — that is a myth unless you happen to fracture a bone at the growth plate, but research shows that with proper supervision, lifting is safer than most sports! In fact, it can even lower the risk of injuries in other sports.

To get the most out of training, starting with plyometric training is most effective before the time frame when you are growing height the fastest —around age 12 in girls and age 14 in boys. During or after this fast height increase period, combined weight training and plyometrics are best for results. Maximal strength improvements happen at different times as well; boys see their biggest strength gains between 16-17 years, while for females, the peak is around 21-22.

👎🏽 50% of people are not getting enough daily.
👍🏽 Good levels may reduce risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, bone disease, and depression!
👎🏽 3-4 months of the year in Canada we get no Vitamin D from the sun (too weak).

As you can see, I've embraced the Movember spirit with my mustache – for better or for worse! 🥸 This month isn't just about growing facial hair; it's about raising awareness for prostate cancer, a major health issue affecting men worldwide.

Did you know that prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men globally? It's a significant concern, but early detection can make a huge difference. Regular check-ups and being aware of the symptoms are key.

Now, let's talk about something we all love – food! 🍽️ Research shows that what we eat can impact our risk of developing prostate cancer. Diets high in fruits and vegetables, particularly those rich in antioxidants, may help reduce the risk. And guess what? Foods like tomatoes, broccoli, and nuts are not just tasty but might be beneficial for prostate health.

As I am now 2/3 through my main licensing exams, I took some time to reflect on all I have learned and experienced in the last 4 years, much of which I have always wanted to do. Some highlights:
